Unionville Presbyterian has delivered more than 70,000 cookies, brownies, cupcakes, and other tasty treats over the last five years to police, fire companies, and non-profits as part of its weekly outreach.
That tradition is still going strong.
Each week except for Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks, the baking team creates between 10-12 trays with goodies like muffins, peanut butter bars, cupcakes, cookies, and brownies. They bring them into church on Wednesdays, and the Rev. Annalie Korengel delivers them.
It’s because of National Law Enforcement Week that Unionville’s baking bonanza began.
Prior to COVID, Unionville Presbyterian would hold a special service each year to honor those in uniform across the region. But when everything was locked down, Rev. Annalie, who also serves as the chaplain for a number of police departments, had the idea to deliver cookies.
She asked the congregation to bake cookies at home and bring them to the church. It was supposed to be a one-time thing, but the following week, people asked for whom they were baking this time, and a tradition began.
“It has been 5+ years and it’s still going strong,” Rev. Annalie said.
